About Luxury Vinyl

  • Overview

Vinyl / Resilient Flooring remains one of the most popular flooring products for a number of reasons. The benefits include low maintenance, durability, economy and style versatility. Vinyl flooring is the most water resistant flooring, making it a great choice for your kitchen or bath. Vinyl floors are available in a wide range of looks, with a large selection of styles from plank to tile looks and many different colors and textures.

When choosing your vinyl floor there are a few things you should consider: Are you looking to use vinyl in a bathroom or a heavily used kitchen? Do you have children or any pets? Less-trafficked areas like a bathroom may do okay with mid-grade products that don't need heavy-duty wear layers. On the other hand, if it's a kitchen or laundry room that is going to get lots of tracked-in dirt and traffic you'll want a more durable vinyl floor. Products with aluminum oxide coatings and thicker construction will do better under tougher conditions.

  • How its Made

Layered composite:  Layered composite vinyl is the most common vinyl flooring construction. Layered composite vinyl has four layers: a backing of vinyl, fiberglass or felt; a core layer of liquid PVC and filler; a decorative layer; and a wear layer of protective, clear vinyl.

Inlaid: Granules of vinyl are stenciled onto a vinyl backing and heated with the wear layer. This creates colors and patterns that will last even after the wear layer has diminished.Homogenous/Solid:  Solid vinyl has uniform composition and structure with no added backing.

  • The important part

No-wax is not as durable as the other vinyl wear layers available, but still withstands wear and tear as well as some stains. Despite the name, "no-wax" floors may require occasional polishing to maintain their shine.

Urethane wear layers resist damage and staining better than vinyl no-wax does. The surface of a urethane wear layer can have more texture to it as well. Enhanced urethane is the most durable vinyl flooring wear layer and the easiest to keep clean. Enhanced urethane also has a shine that lasts longer than vinyl no-wax and urethane.
